It’s 1781 in the Hudson Valley and American soldiers are battling for independence from the British. Ichabod Crane – who is fighting on behalf of the Americans, despite being an Englishman – finds himself facing a terrifying masked soldier, who deals him a deadly blow. With his last act, Ichabod slices off the soldier’s head… and all goes dark.
Much to his surprise, Ichabod wakes up in 2013. Unfortunately, so does the now headless soldier he kiled, and the Headless Horseman soon goes on the rampage, killing the local Sheriff, August Corbin. Corbin’s death is witnessed by the horrified Lt. Abbie Mills, who promptly arrests Crane for the act, although Ichabod tells her his story and insists he is innocent.
At first, Abbie is skeptical (of course), but neither she and Crane discover that the Headless Horseman is one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse – Death, to be exact – and the town of Sleepy Hollow is in big trouble.
Ichabod’s wife in the past, Katrina, visits Ichabod in a dream and he learns that if he has the Horseman’s head, he can stop him from summoning the other Horsemen. Thankfully, Ichabod and Abbie manage to find it, then form an alliance to investigate the mysterious goings-on in Sleepy Hollow.
