Ichabod and Abbie attend a baseball game together, but their fun day out is ruined when Ichabod, who stops by Katrina’s grave on his way home, is kidnapped. Abbie, meanwhile, has a vision – she sees Katrina, who warns her that the Headless Horseman is going to return to Sleepy Hollow that night. Ichabod and the Horseman are bonded by blood and must be separated, because if one of them dies, the other one will as well. Abbie sets off to find the only person who can stop this: a ‘Sin Eater’ by the name of Henry Parish.
Meanwhile, Ichabod is interrogated by the-Freemasons who have taken him, and recounts the story of how he first met Katrina, and how he also failed to save a slave (Arthur Bernard) in his own time. This innocent man’s death now weighs on his soul.
After hearing this story, the men holding Ichabod realize that he is who he says he is, and they allow Henry to do his job as a Sin Eater, removing the ‘sin’ Ichabod felt over the slave’s death. This successfully uncouples Ichabod’s soul from the Horseman’s.
